It is a known fact that Shriya has shot to fame and turned the heads of international audiences only with the film 'Sivaji'. By the virtue of acting beside Rajani Kanth, she gained that popularity. Now she bagged several projects from Bollywood and Hollywood as well.
New Projects In Varied Industries:
Clearly the actress is going places. After wrapping up Ashok Amritraj's The Other End of the Line with Jesse Metcalfe, she has now been signed by none other than Deepa Mehta. Titled What's Cooking, the film has been written and produced by Deepa Mehta.
Shriya's Reaction For Deepa's Film:
"I feel fortunate and working with Deepa has given me a different perspective about acting. While the film is being directed by her brother Dilip, the workshops are handled by Deepa. Deepa's school of acting is very subtle and understated. And it's brilliant without being fussy".
Commercial To Cross Over:
So while she's done a hardcore commercial film like Sivaji down south, up north, Shriya's going global with crossover films. But it isn't a conscious move, says Shriya. "But I won't deny that Sivaji had a huge role in getting me all these films. Even the Amritrajs approached me because they had heard so much about Sivaji. So did Deepa. I'm glad that opportunities of different kinds are coming my way. And I'm really not hassled about doing commercial films one day and doing crossover the next — it's all about acting ultimately, right?" asks the actress.
Shriya's Bollywood Saga:
Bollywood too has been impressed with her acting skills. And in spite of her previous flick Awarapan not doing well at the box office, Shriya has received plum offers including Mission Istanbul starring Abhishek and Vivek Oberoi and Ek with Bobby Deol and Nana Patekar.
Shriya's Southern Saga:
Down south, there's Kandasamy with Tamil star Vikram. But wouldn't she have loved to be a part of Rajnikanth's forthcoming Kuselan? "I'd love to work with Rajni sir again and again. I had a fantastic time doing Sivaji with him, that too so early in my career — he's a fabulous actor and human being," says Shriya. There's also talk of her being considered to be cast opposite Puneet Rajkumar in Raj to be directed by Prem. "I have no idea about it because they haven't approached me," says Shriya. But would she do a full-fledged Kannada film considering she did a guest appearance in Puneet's Arasu? To which the actress says, "I'd do a good film in any Indian language."
Skimpy Costumes:
But one thing she refrains from talking is the controversy regarding her outfit at a celebratory event of Sivaji. "I have nothing to say except that I'm really sorry if I hurt the sentiments of people. I'll ensure that I dress more traditionally next time. I really love Chennai and look forward to being there on my shoots," she says.
